The end is near...

of another year that is.  =D

Hubby and I took advantage of the opportunity to take this last weekend of the year and get away.  It has been so nice.  Got to see my bestie from my single years.  I so missed my girl.  Hopefully we will be able to see each other more in the future.  Stayed at an awesome hotel.  I highly recommend Sugar Beach Resort in Traverse City if you just need to get away.  The rooms are really nice and the bed is so comfortable.  Looking forward to some sight seeing today. Fun times!

Never going to look at Gatorade the same again...

At my last health screening, the doctor suggested a colonoscopy.  I said probably not a bad idea... oh ok, maybe it was a bad idea.  Everyone tells me... it's not the procedure, it's the prep.  As I am now on glass 8 or was it 9 of Miralax laced Gatorade, I starting to think this is crazy.  So... my suggestion for all future colonoscopy candidate... start early.  And when I say early, I'm talking like 5 days out.  Soft foods for 3 days.  Then on the 4th day, have a really big breakfast (scrambled eggs, pancakes or oatmeal - something soft), then a smaller than normal soft lunch (tuna or chicken salad sandwich - no crust, and a banana) and then a really small dinner (mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese).  Two days before the procedure, go with the liquid diet... be sure to include items with nutrients like protein shakes, seedless fruit smoothies or milk shakes.  "Prep day" should be a piece of cake as there really won't be anything in your colon... you'll just be hungry.  I know no one that can go over 36 hours without food and not be hungry.

Unless you have IBS or no gall bladder.  Then there is the potential that your colon will take care of this all by itself.  So personally, I'm about over this whole Gatorade concoction that the dr says I need (which by the way has given me an upset stomach due to the amount of sweetness I have consumed.)  Thinking seriously that my next glass should be laced with, hmmmm, Melatonin.  I'll just sleep right thru the rest of this day.

Here we go again...

I keep trying and I guess as long as I haven't given up, I haven't lost the battle.  So here goes...  I am going to document my life journey and recipes/patterns I find along the way.

So a great weekend went in the books.  LOVE my long weekends away with the family.  Started K's senior pictures.  Hard to believe that my little girl is all grown up.  Had a great time with the hubby and girls on the island.  Hurried back to wish a GREAT friend off into the world of retirement (to quote my lovely B "tear.")

Today was back into the office and then a hurry home for the monthly dr appt.  Talked with a co-worker today about her weight loss challenge she had with her husband.  Her commitment was great.  She gave me some great ideas... be accountable - use a tracking system for calories/food intake, post your weigh-ins where you will see them or use a friend.  Set an obtainable/realistic goal and if it is a challenge make sure the prize keeps you motivated.  I like the idea of a cash prize.  Into the kiddie in the beginning and then the one who lost less for the week has to toss in the number of dollars equal to the number of pounds the biggest loser lost for the week.  Could be substantial.

Weight is up, cholesterol is up, B-12 is up.  1 for 3 gives me room for improvement.  So, the doc put me on a low cholesterol diet for the next two months and then another blood draw.  The nurse also mentioned that getting exercise will help.  Guessing that both will probably be beneficial to not only lowering my cholesterol, but my weight too.  THUS ALLOWING ME TO dominate THE WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE... that I might be doing by myself, lol!

So at home here tonight, I worked out on the Wii and ate a smaller than normal serving of dinner with fresh fruit washed down by a glass of old fashioned water.  And tomorrow's another day =)
